SONOS is thrilled to announce that we will accompany the 1920 Harold Lloyd silent film called "HIS ROYAL SLYNESS" this Saturday June 22. Through arrangement with the Harold Lloyd Trust, we will be projecting the newly restored version of the 22 minute film! It just happens to coincide with the release of the restored DVD/BluRay, which contains the film "SAFETY LAST."
SONOS Music Director Erik Ochsner will serve as themusic supervisor and conductor, with members of the SONOS Chamber Orchestra.
PLOT SUMMARY: An American book salesman (Lloyd) is persuaded to go to the kingdom of Thermosa to impersonate the Prince of Razzamatazz. He is greeted by a peasants' revolt before the real prince shows up to claim his throne and princess. Harold then must fight to keep his place in the palace after the Prince returns. The revolution succeeds and the American is elected president of the new republic.
These beautifully restored films were recently shown on Turner Classic Movies! Find out more: www.haroldlloyd.com

"SILENT MUSIC"
Also on the program for Saturday June 22, 2013, 3:30pm
Jenny Lin, one of the finest pianists around and a close friend of SONOS, released a CD "Musica Callada" by composer Federico Mompou. Filmmaker and actor Mike Lubik created, wrote and directed a music video/short film silent film to accompany Jenny's CD and the movie "Silent Music" was born. Masataka Suemitsu, SONOS webmaster, designer, photographer and close friend of SONOS, was the cinematographer. Both Mike and Masataka will be present for a Q&A!
You can watch the film here, but please come see it on the HUGE SCREEN at the Palace!!!
Who & What is the UNITED PALACE THEATER? ALL-DAY EVENT
Right in our neighborhood of Washington Heights is a hidden gem of a theater called the United Palace Theater. In close collaboration with the Director of the United Palace of Cultural Arts, SONOS has been invited to play music for a silent film!
Built in 1929, this gorgeous Loews movie theater has not had regular films shown since 1969, and we’re doing to do something about that! On June 22, there will be an all-day FREE event called “Bring Film Back to the Palace.” SONOS will perform in a small “salon sized” ensemble comprised of SONOS players! This free event will definitely lead to more events in the future, but only if we can offer to pay our players something this time around! PLEASE COME!
The description of the film says that Lloyd must "KEEP HIS PLACE IN THE PALACE," and so I thought that IS THE FILM we have to play at the PALACE THEATER!!!
